Click on the linked title and you will come to the content:

1. Why are there no accommodations available on the website?

Please check the top of the page under “Available Accommodations” for the latest updates. If all our rooms are currently rented out, please visit: studentdalarna.se External link, opens in new window.

2. What is included in the student accommodation?

All student accommodations include:

  • Furniture (only a few rooms at Mångatan are unfurnished and marked "Omöblerat").
  • Electricity
  • Drinkable tap water
  • Hot water
  • Heating
  • Internet connection

3. What do I need to bring?

You are responsible for arranging the following:

Home insurance

You must have valid home insurance during your stay. It is your own responsibility to arrange this. You can search online (e.g. “hemförsäkring student”) and sign up with a provider of your choice.

Bedding

You will need your own duvet (not just a blanket), pillow, sheets, and towels. Beds are 90 x 200 cm (single beds). If packing space is limited, you can buy these after arrival at local stores like IKEA or second-hand shops.

Kitchen utensils

Kitchens are not officially equipped. However, most students find that basic kitchen items such as plates, cutlery, pans, and mugs are often left by previous tenants. Still, it's a good idea to check upon arrival and purchase anything that may be missing.

Note: If you arrive late in the evening, shops may be closed. Let us know in advance if you need help planning your arrival.

4. What furniture is included?

Each furnished room includes:

  • Bed (90x200 cm)
  • Desk
  • Desk chair
  • Wardrobe or storage
  • Basic furnishing

Note: Bedding, towels and kitchen items are not included.

5. How do I apply for accommodation if I am coming with my partner, friend, or family?

If you're coming with a partner, friend, or another adult and wish to live together (without children), you must actively apply for a room at Mångatan — the only student housing where two adults may share a room. Each room has a single bed (90 x 200 cm), but we’ll try to help arrange a second bed if needed. Mention this under “Room preference” in your application.

If you’re bringing children, we’ll help arrange a suitable apartment within two weeks after you provide proof of your Swedish residence permit. If you don’t need a permit, contact us at student@tunabyggen.se for assistance.

Use the “Room preference” field to let us know if you and a friend want to live in the same shared apartment but in separate rooms (at Kornstigen 23 or Locus). While not guaranteed, we’ll do our best to accommodate.

Important: International students bringing family members should also contact Högskolan Dalarna for information on study rules, work options, and insurance for accompanying family.

6. What is a Late Application and how does it work?

When the regular application period for the semester has closed, we sometimes still have available accommodation. In that case, we publish a listing called “Late Application” on our website.

If you apply through this listing, you don’t apply for a specific room or apartment. Instead, you register your interest, and we will contact you if we have something suitable to offer.

You can disregard the official application deadline for this listing, as contracts are signed continuously throughout the remaining period.

In your student profile, you can specify your preferred type of room and move-in date. Please note that offers depend on availability and may not always match your preferences.

7. What is the Housing Guarantee?

The Housing Guarantee ensures that eligible students who cannot find accommodation for the semester will be offered housing. The guarantee is activated only when all student housing from Tunabyggen and Kopparstaden is fully booked.

You can read more about the conditions and how to apply on www.studentdalarna.se/bostadsgaranti External link.

8. Is it a 10-month or 12-month rent contract?

  • Most accommodations follow a 10-month rent model, meaning you do not pay rent for June and July, even if you stay during those months.
  • Målaregatan follows a 12-month rent model, with rent charged every month, including the summer.
  • Notice period: A 3-month notice is required if you wish to terminate your rental contract.

9. What is the study requirement to be eligible for accommodation?

You must be a registered student at Högskolan Dalarna and studying at least 50% of full-time.

10. Can I stay in Tunabyggen student accommodations if I’m studying in Falun?

Yes! As long as you are enrolled at Högskolan Dalarna, you are eligible for Tunabyggen student housing regardless of whether your classes are in Falun or Borlänge.
